Yesterday, I visited St Senan?s Well in Doonass Demesne, near Clonlara, County Clare.

The well is located on the small by-road to the Angler?s Rest Pub, and is located just before the cemetery on your left. It is distinguished by two silver gates surmounted by small crosses.

The well is located at the end of a long beautiful grove of trees, reminiscent of tales of the ancient Pagan Wells.

The well is obviously extremely well-tended and regularly visited. Not a single piece of litter anywhere. Nice to see for a change!

    The well structure is two-fold:

~ The Well itself is situated beneath an elevated statue of St Senan, beside which is shown the ?Prayer to St Senan?.

To the left are a number of glasses to use for drinking, together with an iron money-box surmounted with a little cross, this, I assume is for offerings for the upkeep of the well.

~ A little in front of the well is a bathing pool, where people may bathe sick or injured limbs etc.

The water was of the highest quality, and the entire structure correctly functioning.

All I have to say here is WOW! I have fallen in love! A well the local community are obviously very proud of.

I would urge everybody to go and see this well to see how all wells should look.
